It's been baking hot in the blogging world for quite a while (for a week, i think) and here, I'm blogging once again to let you know, if you haven't been actively participating in blogger world or forums .
"Actively forging lifetime partnerships with our customers to help them achieve their aspirations, we remain unwavering in our commitment to create more value for customers, shareholders and staff."
, as what stated in OCBC profile policy, a blogger (not me, of course) tries to test out if the ad campaign that we often see on TV is true on her birthday !
Frequently seen Sunday Banking TV Commercial ::
Whole Story behind this :
Yesterday, I went to OCBC Bank, the one at Marine Parade, and asked for a birthday cake. According to the bank's advertisement, their customers get a cake on their birthday, complete with burning candles and a birthday song. And yes, it was my birthday yesterday.

I was waiting for my someone to light the candles on my cake and all the staff were getting ready to shout, 'SURPRISE!' which appeared as same on commercial ad. But sadly, no one did so.

So, I decided to approach one of the staff about my birthday and was replied that it was just an advertisement and I was the first to ask for a birthday cake ! So, the staff went to approach her manager about this and I was again, approached with a bright yellow shopping bag. Would I like the shopping bag instead? 'That's not a cake,' I said. NO CAKE! NO CANDLE! NO GOOD! She disappeared behind the door again.

The bank teller lady who went off to consult her supervisor emerged from the internal bowels of the bank. 'We don't have any cake . . . . It's just an advertisement . . . .' 'If you don't give customers birthday cakes, why do you advertise that you do?' She went back to her supervisor.
Conclusion and Sylistic Thoughts :
Even though the blogger, at last , got her miserable birthday cake from OCBC ,

(I counted her luckily because will anyone be so brave to go up to ask for one though her birthday luckily landed on Sunday ) , it shows that companies should really think of the consequences and reality of their advertising before launching into the TV Space or World.
This actually shows that SOME ads are misleading ( yes, but NOT ALL OF THEM !) because everyone thought that on our birthday, we will get our cake, if we are OCBC Customer !
So, should we actually look at ads at another angle that we shouldn't trust them as much as before , but sometimes, I will think while watching commercials and knowing that they aren't really as true as what it will really happen in reality !
What's your thoughts about this ? A failed commercial of course , and losing customers and innocent kids' belief who thought there will really be a birthday cake on their birthday !
We didn't say that YOU SHOULDN'T BELIEVE in ads , NO ! You should , but not to a great extent. Of course, there are real commercials like Mike Wishes which really fulfill Mike and his friends' wishes at the countdown 2010 @ Marina Bay Singapore !
So, THINK TWICE before you believe in ads . Do you really think they will reward you with a cake on your birthday ? If yes, they will have done so, personally to your doorstep like those Swenson Birthday Treat voucher for your free cake or present.
