12AugBEWARE of RECENT MAYBANK SCAM

SCAM1

This is the above MAYBANK Email that i have recieved.

Please DO NOT click on the link as listed to reactivate the account.

So, How Do i know that this email is just another spam email?

1. Marked as **SPAM** by Microsoft Outlook will be a sign for you to know that it might be a spam email, so BEWARE!

2.I am not a MAYBANK Customer, so how will I be able to recieve an email notification from them?

3. NEVER , EVER Click LOGON onto emails especially banks like PAYPAL and HSBC and More!
Type out the url instead or google for the bank and click on direct link.

4. IF YOU ARE PROMPT TO CLICK ON THE LINK EMBEDDED IN EMAIL, SCROLL OVER THE LINK, like what I did in the bottom of the email :: the 3rd arrow which shows that it is not maybank.com.my but instead, another url address like that address as shown below.

SCAM2

Please be aware of this email spreading around and take extra precautions or else YOU will fall into victim!

Some precautions by Symantec:

Use credit cards for Internet purchases. In the United States, your liability is limited by law if someone captures your credit card number and uses it illegally. However, the law doesn't protect debit cards the same way. Though your debit card may appear to function like a credit card, use an actual credit card instead. Check with your credit card company, bank, or online merchant for further protection information.

Keep track of your online accounts. Review your credit card, bank, and investment statements monthly. If you discover unusual activity or unauthorized transactions, immediately contact your credit card company or bank.

Use strong passwords for your online accounts and change them often. Don't use your phone number, birth date, or name in user names and passwords. Make sure passwords use a combination of letters, numbers, and other characters.

Be careful with online auctions. Before bidding, learn the rules, validation procedures, and payment methods for the site. Watch out for sellers offering unique or rare items. Try to assure authenticity and confirm the legitimacy of the seller before bidding.

Install comprehensive firewall, virus and trojan protection on your computer like NORTON Internet Virus Softwares !

Request credit report every year to check for any signs of transactions fraud.

Any other ways to prevent yourself from falling into victim?

04JulProtecting Your Computers Effectively from Malwares and Malicious Threats

"You are a security expert that knows how well to protect your computer" says Norton to ME !:)

Well, you will be wondering, "What's all this about?" Alright, I have taken a survey conducted by Norton from Symantec and yeap, thats what they reveal about my IT Security knowledge and how good I am to secure my computer.

"I am also well aware of the risks and taking effective and active measures to keep you and your loved ones safe from the high level of online threats you are exposed to."

And Yeap, these are my results of my survey :

Your online diagnosis:

1. Your threat savviness:
You are well aware of the major online security risks, both behavioural and cybercrime related. You demonstrate a strong understanding of what to do and what not to do when conducting a variety of online activities and, as a result, have deployed appropriate security measures. We urge you to maintain this level of awareness as online attackers become increasingly sophisticated and targeted in their attacks. The online world has fast become a playground for criminals, in which individuals or highly organised gangs trade and purchase a whole host of stolen data, ranging from credit card details to online gaming accounts, and make a substantial amount of money by doing so. This underground economy is showing no signs of slowing down and as awareness and subsequently protection increases, we need users like yourself to help build a defence, fight the crime and educate your children on the behavioural risks posed by threats such as online predators and cyberbullies.

--> Yes, there are plentiful of cyberbullies, which include your friends? enemies? your twitter friends? And yeap, of course, there's a need to protect yourself from all these threats by not responding to them may help? Or seek help from adults or experienced counsellors.

2. Your level of exposure to online risks:
You have a high level of online engagement through a variety of touch points and transactions. As a result, you are in our most ‘at risk’ category and are a key target for cybercriminals looking to obtain your personal information for fraudulent use or for inappropriate measures. Continue to stay vigilant and protected against these risks.

--> Yes, I spend almost hours on internet , not doing my school work or projects , seriously. Playing games, surfing, blogging, tweeting, plurking, facebooking, photoshop.- Yes, thats what I do and imagine , you don't have antivirus software, Sure you will be exposing yourself to lots of rootkits?Trojan Horses?Adwares? And MORE!

3. Your protection level:
Due to your knowledge of the threat landscape and high Internet usage, you have deployed a high level of protection. However, as you’re in our ‘high risk’ category, we urge you to continue to assess your changing security needs based on your changing online habits.Continue to stay alert and invest in robust security software, and you’ll ensure you remain in our ‘safe, but living on the edge’ category.

--> There's a never ending of trojan horses, malware and many other viruses. So, never stop updating your antivirus signature files or extending/purchasing new anti virus softwares (not limiting to Norton) to keep your computers away from these MALICIOUS VIRUS AND WORMS !

Some other tips for ENHANCED Security provided by Norton:

Beware of suspicious email.

You may think an email is harmless - until you open it and it’s not. Scan emails before you open them and take extra caution when launching executable (.exe) files attached to an email.

Neighbourhood watch your network.

If you’ve got multiple computers linked together at home or at the office, keep an eye on the neighbourhood. All network-connected computers and inbound/outbound traffic should be monitored for signs of unauthorized entry and malicious activity, ensuring that any infected computers are removed from the network and disinfected as soon as possible.

Patch. Upgrade. Repeat.
Protect yourself by getting the latest operating system and security software updates and patches right away. Also upgrade your browsers to the latest versions as soon as they become available. Encrypt. If you keep sensitive data on your PC—and most people do—encrypt it.

Layer your security.

Just like wearing layers better protects you from the cold, layers of security better protects your PC from the evildoers of cyberspace. Use antivirus software and firewalls, and keep all your security programs up to date.

Back it up.

If you’ve got important data, back it up. There are too many ways to lose information; human error, hardware failure, accidents...the list goes on. It’s just as bad to lose data for these reasons, as to malware.

Take your passwords to the gym.

The stronger your passwords, the more likely they’ll fend off devious intruders who are looking for weaklings they can bully. Passwords should have at least eight characters and should combine alphanumeric and special characters ($, *, &, etc.). You should also change your passwords every 45-60 days.

Prevent SPAM.

When it comes to malware, SPAM is usually where it begins. SPAM not only gobbles up your valuable time, it also hogs bandwidth and storage space. Report SPAM if you can, and use antispam software whenever possible.

Be cautious.

Do not give yourself a false sense of security by using free security software (freeware) as some of them carry malware which is designed to bait users and then up-sell them later under the promise of more robust protection –at a higher price than a paid-for solution. Unless you have a high level of technical competency, where you are able to build your own security solution with different point products, we would recommend you avoid reliance on standalone freeware to protect your online environment.

And just for your information, to keep yourself updated and away from these Dangerous viruses, visit http://www.symantec.com/business/theme.jsp?themeid=threatreport for the latest threat updates and viruses.

And consider them if you need one to protect your computer from "dying" :
